Sign in from QIP, Miranda and Jimm
Mandarin speaks OSCAR, the protocol ICQ ran on. A Mandarin number works as a UIN: you sign in to a classic client with it, like back then, and friends who use Mandarin see you in their contact list.
- Sign up with your phone number in Mandarin Web or Mandarin for Android.
- Set a password for ICQ (6 to 8 characters) in Mandarin, under Other protocols, and allow sign-ins.
- In your classic client, enter the server
oscar.mandarin.im, port5190, your Mandarin number and that password.
Old ICQ UINs and passwords won't work here. Mandarin is a separate service, and the records of the old numbers stayed with ICQ's owner, Mail.Ru Group (now VK), which shut it down in 2024. Your Mandarin number will be a new one.

A profile holds a nickname, first and last name, gender, birthday and a few words about you, and you can fill it in right in your classic client.
Groups, channels and reactions live only in the new clients, Mandarin for Android and Mandarin Web; classic clients don't support them. As with the old ICQ, the connection between classic clients and the server isn't encrypted.
