Deleting your account
How to delete a Mandarin IM account, and what happens to its data
Delete it yourself, in a minute: Settings › Privacy › Delete account, in the Android app or at web.mandarin.im. No app at hand? Sign in at web.mandarin.im with your phone number: there is nothing to install.
How to delete it
- Open Mandarin on your phone, or web.mandarin.im in a browser and sign in with your phone number.
- Go to Settings › Privacy and choose Delete account at the bottom.
- Mandarin sends a code to its chat on your devices. Enter it and confirm.
The account is deleted at once and for good: there is no waiting period, and it cannot be brought back.
What is deleted
- Your profile: name, picture, about and status.
- Your phone number: it can sign up again, as a new account with a new Mandarin ID.
- Your contacts and address book, privacy settings and blocks.
- Your bots, with their tokens.
- Your sessions: every device is signed out, classic ICQ clients too, with the password for them.
What stays
- Messages you sent stay with the people and groups who got them, shown as from “Deleted account”.
- Groups and channels you own pass to an admin, or to their longest member; one left empty is deleted.
- Records of reports and moderation about the account, kept for the safety of others.
- Backup copies, overwritten within 8 days, and service logs that note your number, erased within 30 days.
Your Mandarin ID is never given to anybody else.
